If you are divorced in Maryland and headed towards a second or subsequent marriage, you might want to check your credit score. A new online dating site for single and divorced people is hoping that matching people via credit scores will help them find love.
When someone signs up for the site, they are required to enter their credit score, but there is a catch — it’s all on the honor system. The site doesn’t actually do a check of the scores entered. The higher the score you enter, the better credit risk you are as a potential mate.
According to the founder of the site, registrants are required to answer questions that can determine if they are lying about their credit score.
“The questions cover topics such as delinquent accounts in the past and what they would do with a sudden cash windfall. The answers are included on each user’s profile, alongside other pertinent dating information like age and hobbies.”
A survey conducted by Bankrate wanted to find out if a credit score or financial situation affects a person’s chances of finding a partner. The survey found that two in five people felt knowing someone’s bad credit score could affect interest in dating someone.
The survey also found that 50 percent of women would think twice about dating someone if they had a bad credit score, compared to men who responded at 35 percent.
Many financial and legal experts agree that disclosing financial information of this nature should not be done until there is an exchange of vows. Experts also recommend that making large purchases or sharing bank accounts should not happen until “I do” is declared by the couple.
The new dating site reportedly uses an algorithm to determine if the answers to the questions are truthful and the algorithm has a reported 92 percent success rate.
